Introduction:

Aspheric lenses are used to eliminate spherical aberration in a variety of applications including barcode scanning, laser diode alignment, or OEM or R&D integration. The aspheric lenses are a single-element design, which helps minimize the number of lenses in multi-lens optic assemblies. Another way of saying this is that, unlike traditional lenses with spherical outer surfaces, aspheric lenses have a more complex outer surface that gradually changes in curvature from the center of the lens to the outside of the lens edge. Reducing total component usage not only helps reduce system size or weight, but also simplifies the assembly process. Integrating an aspheric lens with an application, such as focusing the output of a laser diode, can not only reduce overall cost, but also enable higher performance than assemblies designed for traditional spherical optical lenses.
