Polarization Rotators have the outstanding feature that their alignment is not a function of their rotation. They are simply placed in the beam at normal incidence. Crystalline quartz polarization rotators based on circular birefringence are very convenient high damage threshold device. They are useful over a narrow band of wavelengths centered at the design wavelength. A 90¡ã rotator centered at 500nm gives acceptable performance from 488-515nm in laser pumping schemes.
